Think back on your life, by the ages of 16-24, you were making the first pivotal life decisions that impacted your future.
Each of us set out beginning our educational goals, career paths, personal goals and choices around the ages of 16-24. Think back to the crucial importance of the decisions you were making at that age range, and the general lack of experience, and the intense pressures you faced.
Some of those decisions were made successfully, and others presented challenges. The difference between success and challenges often was a direct result of what mentors we had in our lives.
Every youth is one mentor away from success.
Without guidance and assistance, young adults may make misinformed choices, personally and professionally, that may affect them significantly.
As a person with potentially valuable life experience, you could mentor a young adult.
You can help youth identify their goals, make positive choices using harm reduction techniques while navigating important self-identified goals.
We are creating a program with youth, led by youth voice and youth choice, where members of our community can be a resource for the young people in the Rapid City area.
If you are interested in being a mentor, please contact Joe Barb at the below email address. We look forward to engaging with you!
Mentors are subject to background screening to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the youth we serve.
